The Monk is an easily recognizable rock formation on Camelback Mountain that many Valley residents are surprised to learn is home to a rock-climbing wall.
The wall is of moderate difficulty, and many first timers use The Monk to break in their new gear. With a difficulty level of 5.4, this wall features a vertical angle and permanent bolts fixed on the route.
The Monk is an excellent wall to practice on, and provides plenty of thrills with its free-fall drop off the back side. When you're ready for something more difficult, there are many neighboring cliffs and rocks that provide more challenging routes.
The Monk is accessible from the bottom of Summit Trail which can be accessed from the Echo Canyon parking area near the intersection of McDonald and Tatum.
