Stoneman Trail

Although anyone who takes on Stoneman Trail will certainly make good use of it, this 7.5 mile trail (each way) is especially perfect for mountain bikers. If you're up for something a little longer, try Pemberton Trail. However, this historical trail is especially lush with desert scenery, and the 15 miles you get doing this trail round trip should quench your appetite.

You can also cut this trail short by accessing it from the Wilderness Campground Trail, which begins at the campground. The Rio Fire of 1995 wiped much of this area out, but the Park is quickly rejuvenating itself, and along this trail you will find new, blooming plants, including yellow brittlebush.

Getting There: McDowell Mountain Regional Park is located north of Fountain Hills. From Mesa, drive north on Beeline Highway and turn west on Shea Boulevard; take Fountain Hills Boulevard north to the park. You'll have to cough up $3 per car to get in.
