The 20,000-acre Estrella Mountain Regional Park is a seemingly-remote desert sanctuary that is only a mere 5 miles south of Interstate 10 just outside Phoenix. The park lays claim to 33 miles of hiking trail, of which Rock Knob Buggy comprises a quick 2.8.
Rock Knob Buggy will quickly take you right into the heart of the Park, and is an ideal location to relax with a group of friends. The trail is an old wagon route, so the road is steady, even, and easy to follow. The trail rounds at at the base of Rock Knob. To make something longer out of the hike, follow Pack Saddle Trail when it branches off.
Getting There: From Phoenix, drive west on I-10 and go south on Estrella Parkway. Continue to West Vineyard Avenue and turn left, then drive east to the park entrance. Inside the park, go left on Casey Abbot Drive North and park at the 143rd Drive trailhead. The entrance fee is $2.
